Why Birth stories matter
Birth stories. We’ve all heard a few at least. I hope you’ve heard some good ones but unfortunately, I can almost guarantee you’ve mostly heard traumatic ones. Birth is something that happens all over the world every day and for the majority of the time, birth is a very safe and natural occurrence. So why are so many women and men so immensely afraid of the birth of their children? Doesn’t it seem like this is the type of event that should be looked forward to with excitement, not dread?
What if instead of filling our heads and hearts with the scary stories (that most of the time have underlying issues that were not understood or resolved by the teller) we uplifted our future mothers and fathers with stories of power and the sensations of the most intense love they will ever experience? What if while being real and honest we were encouraging and inspiring about the awesome experience of childbirth?
If those real, honest, and inspiring stories were told and read more often I truly believe that we would have more mothers and fathers preparing for their birth experience and walking away feeling joyful or at least empowered.
With this in mind, I invite you to keep tabs on our blog space here at grayceeubanksdoula.com as we post raw stories from our local families in Central Illinois. Come anytime to see their photos and read their words as they tell about the miracle of childbirth.
